Do
you actually need
a new mattress?
The
normal life of a mattress, according to industry standards,
is about five to seven years. However, good quality
mattresses under normal usage, may last a few years
more than that.
How
do you know
you need a new mattress?
Even
though there are some clear signs that a mattress
has surpassed its intended lifespan -large bulges
or deep sunken holes, internal materials spewing at
the seams- there are other more subtle indications
that it is time to retire your old mattress. For instance,
do you experience inexplicable body aches and pains
when you raise up in the morning? Do you feel that
you sleep better on places other than your bed? If
you are not getting the night's rest that you used
to enjoy before, it may be time for you to start looking
to replace your mattress.
If
I purchase a mattress
do I need to buy
a new box spring?
Most
experts agree that the majority of box springs actually
do not have springs in them, but are rather wire structures.
Unless it has been really abused and showing indentations
and torn or ripped areas or other signs of damage,
most likely your old box spring can handle supporting
the new mattress. A word of caution, though, a sagging
box spring is not readily noticeable and needs to
be carefully inspected to ensure the proper support.
This can be a cause of voidance of warranties for
your new mattress, as it can be argued that your mattress
is sagging due to the incorrect box spring.
